smiles and more smiles!

we had a great time this weekend visiting boston! just look at elliot's smile! i think that is how we all felt.
here he is with a psycho looking pirate at quincy market. you can get a picture with him(for a fee of $1, which they don't tell you until they've pulled your little one in, and you can't say no). it also happend with a clown making balloon animals. i turn my back for a minute, look back and there is a clown blowing a balloon up for elliot, oh yeah and it's only $2. oh well, elliot smiled and the balloon actually lasted about 5 minutes. hehe.
there was a lot of new things in downtown boston since last summer. a few places that had been closed were open. a couple of graveyards(the picture below is of a tombstone), there is a new holocaust memorial which was quite moving, and the area above the big dig is now grass and water and a shooting fountains like at the gateway, only without the loud music. it was fun to have new things to see.
we met up with eric and sarah for lunch at faneuil hall. my sister's sister in-law and her husband just moved near boston and we are good friends, so we had them meet us for lunch and after they joined us to the frog pond. elliot had a blast and sam had a nap. we were there for a couple of hours. if you ever go to boston and you had kids, you've gotta make a stop at the frog pond. it's this huge wading pool in the middle of the boston common. there is also a playground right next to it. it was great!
we had to say goodbye to ashley and mike, but we are sure we will meet up with them again soon. they were a lot of fun!
we then had the lucky chance to go to bartley's burgers in harvard square. they are the best burgers i have ever had, and i don't normally even like burgers. here is a good shot of jeffrey and his burger. i got the mitt romney burger, onions and swiss cheese. yum!
funny little story. so we had just gone and gone all day. elliot seemed a little tired, but he kept on trucking. then when we got to dinner he slowed down. he ate his hot dog and then nearly fell over. i noticed out of the corner of my eye that he was doing the church head nod and his eyes were rolling. at first i thought that maybe something was wrong, but nope. he was just falling asleep sitting up. sweet eric offered to hold him and seconds later he was out! unfortunately, because it was 7pm when he fell asleep he woke up at 1 and 2 and 3 and finally slept again from 4 to 7. haven't had that kind of a night since sam was 6 months.
here is sammy and eric staying up late reading stories about "row rows" (kitty cats).
it was so good to see eric and sarah and be in their apartment. it's a great apartment! they still have that gorgeous view! we were so happy that they let us stay with them and hang out with them while we were in town. our boys can be quite a handful, but eric and sarah just smiled and kept on playing with them. thanks for loving our boys!! we love you guys! good luck with the upcoming twins!
we also had the chance to visit our friend paola and her son julian. it was so good to see them again and to catch up. sam followed julian wherever he went. if he lifted a leg, then sammy lifted a leg. if he went down a slide, then sammy went down a slide. it was so cute and i think julian liked having a little shadow.
paola was my first friend in cambridge last year. it was so good to see her again. we used to meet up at the parks and the kids would just play. i hope to live near her again some day.
all smiles and now back to new york. hopefully by the end of next year we will be smiling this big about new york, but alas be leaving again.

MI I'm so glad you got to spend time with Eric and Sarah and I'm excited that you hooked up with Ashley and Mike- aren't they fun?

Thanks again for letting us spend some time with you and have such a blast. We enjoyed every second of it. Anyone from the Homer family line is top notch in my book. That opinion started when back when I was twelve and the Smiths and the Homers became connected. Love ya, Mary Irene!
